Dr. Steinman is a board certified dermatologist and is Director of Dermatologic and Skin Cancer Surgery at Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. He is married to Diedre Steinman, an accomplished medical camouflage makeup artist, and they have two sons.

He is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine.

He is a past president of the:

American Society for Mohs Surgery
San Diego Dermatological Surgery Society
San Diego County Dermatology Society

He has served on the boards of directors of:
American Society for Mohs Surgery
California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery
California Society of Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery

Dr. Steinman is co-author of two skin cancer textbooks: Mohs surgery: Fundamentals and Techniques and Mohs surgery: Beyond the Fundamentals and co-directs the annual course “Fundamentals of Mohs Surgery” in San Diego, CA. He is the author or co-author of over 25 dermatology research journal articles and 12 textbook chapters.

He earned his undergraduate B.A. degree at Pomona College in 1976 (magna cum laude) and his M.D. degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1980.

Dr. Steinman completed his first two years of dermatology residency at U.C.S.D. He then completed his third year of residency at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, England - a position awarded to one non-British doctor annually at the largest dermatology hospital in Great Britain.

Dr. Steinman then completed one additional year of advanced fellowship training in Mohs surgery and dermatological surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Prior to entering private practice in 1989, he was on the full-time faculty of the U.C.S.D. School of Medicine and Chief of Dermatology at the V. A. Medical Center in La Jolla.
