Paul Nghiem, MD, PhD

Paul Nghiem, MD, PhD (pronounced NEE-em) trained as a dermatologist and cancer biologist at Stanford Medical School,  Brigham & Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Chemistry Department.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Dermatology/Medicine and Pathology (Adjunct) at the University of Washington, and an Affiliate Investigator at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.  He greatly enjoys running a research lab with trainees ranging from undergraduate to fellow. His clinical practice is at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and focuses on management of complex skin cancers. The major research interests in his lab are understanding and manipulating cellular responses to UV damage (ATR, the replication checkpoint and skin cancer prevention with caffeine) and on Merkel cell carcinoma (caused by a mix of advancing age, immune suppression and a new polyomavirus).
