Joseph F. Fowler, Jr. MD
Joseph F. Fowler Jr., MD, is a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Louisville and is in private practice at the Louisville Dermatology Specialists. Dr. Fowler is an internationally known dermatologist, recognized for his work in the field of contact and occupational dermatology. He has maintained a busy private practice for almost 30 years in Louisville, Ky.
He has been a past president of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, the Space Dermatology Foundation, and the Kentucky Dermatology Society. He is president of the North American Contact Dermatitis Group. He is listed in Woodward and White's "Best Doctors in America." He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of numerous professional organizations.
Dr. Fowler is the founder and chairman of the Caribbean Dermatology Symposium. He has been an invited lecturer at many regional, national, and international medical conferences, including the annual conference of the American Academy of Dermatology each year since 1989.
He is the author or coauthor of over 110 scholarly publications and medical chapters and the co-author, with Bob Rietschel MD, of "Fisher's Contact Dermatitis," one of the most used dermatology textbooks. Dr. Fowler has served as a principal investigator on multiple pharmaceutical studies, with a special concentration in treatments for atopic eczema, contact dermatitis, skin cancer, psoriasis, acne, and other dermatoses. He is a consultant for a number of dermatologic companies.
Dr. Fowler lives in Louisville with his wife Lynn, where they breed and race thoroughbred horses. When not working, he enjoys tennis, music, wine, and travel.
