James M. Shwayder, MD, JD
James M. Shwayder, M.D., J.D. was most recently a Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was the Chair of Ob-Gyn from 2012 to 2017. He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona in 1982. From 1982-1998 he was in private practice in Virginia, subsequently joining the University of Colorado in 1998. He earned his JD from the University of Denver College of Law in 2003. In 2006, he joined the University of Louisville as the Director of Gynecology and the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery. In 2010, he became the Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs at Louisville. In 2012, he assumed the Chair at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Dr. Shwayder is a Fellow of ACOG and a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). He was on the AIUM Board of Governors, is Chair of the AIUM Coding Committee, and is the AIUM Representative to the AMA Coding Advisory Committee. He is the Vice-Chair of the Clinical Standards Committee at AIUM.
Dr. Shwayder was the Co-Editor for the 7th and 8th edition of ACOG’s Prolog: Gynecology and Surgery. He is an editor for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and an immediate past editor for Obstetrics & Gynecology.
